September 9, 2019 was a day of celebration for the migrants of Manjanakad, Vypin, Kerala. It was to commemorate the harvest festival of Kerala –‘Onam’. Coming together always brings excitement, joy and sense of belonging to those migrant women who are very far from their home land. The high light of the day was a meaningful Eucharistic celebration in their language – ‘Hindi’. It was attended by 70 women who work in the fish processing company. Three priests from Odisha concelebrated the Mass. They were welcomed to the altar with a dance procession. Their lively hymns added to the festive mood and made the Eucharistic celebration devotional and meaningful. It was followed by a festive lunch which was sponsored by the community of Mumbai, the fruit of their Friday fasting. The women enjoyed their day to the full. It brought back nostalgia to them as they sat together to chit-chat. They could forget the burden of work and relax together. It would be a day to remember as they were nourished both spiritually and materially. Thanks to Srs. Jackline Ghonsalves and Mary Mulloor for organizing this meaningful encounter.
