I was happy to participate in the three days of zoom seminar on the topic of migrants and pilgrims as our ancestors.

It was an international Conference organized by the International Union of Women Superiors General (USIG), the Union of Male Superiors General (USG) and the Scalabrini International Migration Institute (SIMI). They have convoked a group of biblical scholars and international theologians together with pastoral ministers to present and discuss the current state of their research and to offer a response to the reality of the present movement of migrants.  This International Conference, lasting three days, was an important opportunity for a reflection that leads to action.

It gave me lots of insights.  Salvation history is the history of migration. We are all migrants. We need them as much as they need us. Migration has to happen all the time and it is not a threat but it brings freshness and vitality. As the people of God moves the church too moves ….it moves to seek its neighbors just as Mary moved to see her cousin Elizabeth as soon as she knew she needs her. We too are called …. called to pitch a tent among the people of God, encounter them, get involved with them in their struggles, share their stories and fight for their rights. It allows us to go beyond the walls that separate us and let the fresh air in and grow towards an ever wider  ‘We’ as Pope Francis spoke about. Then we can do greater things with the one who is mightier than all of us… Who strengthens us on our journey.
